Biography Associate Professor Russell Vickers

Russell is a NZ registered Specialist Oral and MaxilloFacial Surgeon and a leading authority on the use of Stem Cells as it relates to facial regeneration and their use in neurological diseases of the cranial nerves.

Russell trained in surgery at The University of Sydney, Sydney Hospital and undertook a research Fellowship in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.

Russell was appointed by The Royal Australian Navy as a Consulting Oral and MaxilloFacial Surgeon and until recently was operating on their personnel. He has an appointment as Consultant MaxilloFacial Surgeon to Albury Wodonga Oral and MaxilloFacial Surgery and cares for patients from northern Victoria to central western NSW, Australia.

Russell has had an active research career in Stem Cell Medicine and is appointed as a Google Scholar in this field. He is registered in the United Kingdom and consults in Harley Street, London.

Socially Russell likes time on his farm and is an avid painter having exhibited and sold art works at numerous exhibitions.

Biography Mr Peter G Vickers

Peter VickersMr Peter G Vickers BMBS (Flinders), BDS (Syd), FRACDS, FRCS (Edinburgh), FRCS (England), FACCS, F.Acad.Med (Malaysia), Cert.OMFS (Louisiana).

My name is Peter Vickers. I originally hail from Sydney but have trained in Adelaide, Australia; the UK and USA. I am qualified in the fields of Medicine and Dentistry, specializing in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. My surgery training encompassed craniofacial surgery, head and neck surgery, oral surgery, reconstructive surgery, trauma surgery, cosmetic surgery and dental surgery including dental implants.

I have undertaken extensive head and neck cancer surgery and cleft lip and palate surgery in South East Asia having worked in Malaysia for three years. I was an inaugural fellow of The Australian College of Cosmetic Surgery. In 1989 I pioneered free tissue transfer in the Australian National Capital with the first free, vascularised tissue transfer for tongue reconstruction.

I hold Fellowships in Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, England and Australia. I have a certificate of residency training from the examination board of the Louisiana State University, USA. I have extensive experience in gunshot wounds from my training in trauma surgery in New Orleans. I had undertaken teaching as Director of The MaxilloFacial Unit at Macquarie University Hospital in Sydney, Australia from 2010 to 2017.

My recreational interests include golf and water sports. I enjoy camping and generally keep fit by training for marathons having done the New York, London, Berlin, Paris and 3 mountain marathons in New Zealand. I have been awarded the Australian Defence Medal for military service.
